The “dog” in the phrase is usually associated with the bulldog which is a common mascot in the Corps”. Well.. not so fast. Truth be told around 1916 this USMC General and some Rear Admiral guy were stuck on post living next door to each other.. in freaking mansions. Really. Go to a hundred year old post and check out the CG’s digs! Anyhoo this general had a bulldog mutt thing with like 6 inch legs that drooled all the time and was generally not well liked; but the dog loved to crap on the Admiral’s lawn everyday which the General thought was hilarious. Got to the point the dog was nipping sailors ankles constantly which was reallly pissing off the Admiral so he started making the sailors (cleaning up the poop) wear leggings so when the midget Bulldog attacked their ankles (being so short with 6 inch legs) none of the sailors got hurt. Then some Army General visits, see’s the leggings, thinks they are totally bad ass and starts issuing them out to his troops. Not to be out done so does the USMC.. so now you know how leggings started getting issued. Not too sure how a 6 inch mutt is an awesome mascot though. Moving forward as Paul Harvey used to say “and now for the rest of the story”. In 2015 Obama is President and PETA pounds the crap out of Obama to outlaw Bulldog’s as mascots on military posts as they are being “mistreated” by the Marines; turns out Marines were jogging with the mutts and the mutts couldn’t quite keep up with their little 6 inch legs which of course is cruel and unfair. So Obama signed executive order 13759 effectively forbidding any more “mascots” on Corp post or bases! Ok anyhoo once again you cant build your own as Glock won’t even entertain giving you a compensated RTF2 let alone in Battlgray but let’s say you buy one for $600, send out for engraving “USMC” and insignia, and flag $222, find a machine shop to actually do certificated OEM compensated slide cuts $275, Govt issue steel Glock tritium night sights installed $144, Government issue Glock compensated barrel $150, official two sided embroidered USMC licensed flag stunningly beautiful beyond belief $160, total $1551. AZ pays tax AMEX visa discover MC add 3.5% The commendation letter in the pics was my Father’s and occurred at Outpost Vegas. “The battle for outpost Vegas and the surrounding outposts are considered the bloodiest fighting to date in western Korea during the Korean War”. I went Airborne. “All The Way”. Out.
