PISTOL: Manufacturer’s statements and accolades are all over the net so I leave that for you to Google but I will share the following: Hmm. I really like this pistol yet I exclusively shoot Glock 17’s. It is the black LE version in .45 ACP for those whom just gotta have that hammer but it holds 16 rounds.. one less than my Glock 9mm. Hmm. It has a decocker which can be used in SAO or DAO mode; this means the safety (which is a decocker not a safety but for ease of analysis) when up makes the trigger useless. You can pull the trigger all day and it freely moves fully to the rear and forward but does not engage the hammer; as with any 1911 type safety you simply sweep it down or off and the hammer system is engaged allowing a first round double action shot (as a revolver) with subsequent follow up in single action (as a 1911) when you pull the trigger. This allows the operator an enhanced margin of personal safety as if in a fisticuff situation (ok CQB, hand to hand, what have you) if the pistol is lost and retrieved or snatched by the adversary the odds of said adversary being knowledgeable of a decocker are slim and allows the original operator time to adjust their method of assault ie braining the sumbitch. By the By you can also carry the pistol cocked with the decocker on allowing your first round to be single action; added bonus. Threaded barrel means you can, but do not need to, add or use a suppressor. Works quite wondrously as is ie sans suppressor. Means no suppressor needed.
The ergonomics of this pistol are, ok, better than the full size Glock. Yes it has modular backstraps (throw them away) but the grip as is allows all but those with the smallest hands a standard high grip butting against the beavertail. Super. The slide has a lower bore axis so with the red dot installed it has the same sight signature as the Glock 17 or 19 with no red dot. In other words the sight picture is no higher than a standard sight picture even with the RMR red dot. No small feat as typically a red dot on a pistol insures the operator must look and find the dot taking up time. No such issue here acquisition of dot is instantaneous.
Gotta admit they had me when I opened the outer box to discover a high quality inner box instead of styrofoam or cheap plastic which in turn holds a high quality canvas case for the pistol and accoutrements. Colt Pythons are delivered in cheapo plastic cases as are all Colt’s, S&W, Glock, Sig all same same cheap ass trash cases. FN is obviously proud of this pistol and it shows from the start.
OPTICS: Premier top of the line 6.5 MOA dot in the RM07 gives the user the biggest dot available for instantaneous CQB acquisition. The dot size gives the user the ability to locate the dot quickly which is ideal for close quarter engagements and as a side benefit is a great solution for those who have vision problems. Trijicon RMR is contracted for, and adopted by, USSOCOM. Easy-to-use buttons on the sides of the optic allow the user to adjust the illumination brightness, toggle between manual and automatic modes, and power down the RMR for storage. If a manual mode has been chosen, the RMR will remain in manual mode for 16.5 hours following the last push of a button. After 16.5 hours, the optic will default back to the automatic mode so that the RMR will be ready for your next mission or task. All RMR Type 2 Adjustable LED sights are compatible with night vision devices. Additionally, the user can also lock out the buttons so that the RMR functions in automatic mode only. This ensures that inadvertent button pushes do not cause a loss of aiming solution.
SIGHTS: Suppressor height night sights are three dot green tritium and co-witness through the RMR. If the RMR is not on or broke (both nigh to impossible as the battery life is 4 years) you can use the iron sights with the RMR installed on the slide.
