ROCKEGROUP RAMBLINGS: Before we start I must confess I own two of these; one in .375 Ruger and one in .338 RUM. Roxie and Terri each own one in .338 RUM. On the surface this is rather disingenuous of me. I hate fake wood stocks. I hate cheese ass engraving on rifles. I hate distressed steel firearms as I feel I can scratch em up enough on my own. I have never liked the Gunwerks Clymer stock, I prefer Magnus. I order all my Gunwerks with carbon wrapped barrels, not straight steel. Yeah, well, there is an “exception to every rule”. I love these rifles. Period. They are freaking spectacular. Chock full o’ awesomeness. This rifle feels perfect with awesome ergonomics. Twenty inch barrel and shoots 900+ yards all day long in this .338 RUM combo. Ballistic Turret means you range to target and turn the turret to that range. Brown Bear Monster/Moose/Elk/Cape Buffalo/ Wolf/ Muley/ Mastodon whatever at 425 yards? Turn the turret to 4.25. Target at 600 yards turn the turret to “6”. Completely tuned, zeroed and set up by Gunwerks with the included Gunwerks ammunition and Ballistic Turret.
CALIBER .338 RUM: Never really had a use for the .338 RUM until we acquired our personal Skuhls. My 1st Skuhl is in .375 Ruger with a 1-8 scope on it. I can shoot sub 2″ groups at 300 yards with it which is spectacular for myself and the rifle/cartridge. For that reason alone I cannot give that rifle up. Roxie and Terri shoot the .338 RUM. The .338 RUM is a true long distance cartridge and allows for precision 1000 yards shooting (with this rifle). That said I cannot call wind reliably and the longest I can shoot at large game for a one shot kill is about 700 yards.. on a calm morning with no wind. Hence the .338 RUM. Less recoil, insanely accurate, long distance capability, long distance lethality, numerous bullet loads available from white tailed deer to Brown Bear, Elephant, Musk Ox, Cape Buffalo, Lion.. all of it.
BORDEN ON THE .338 RUM: “Close analysis of the .338 Lapua vs .338 RUM shows the RUM delivers equal velocities with less powder and shorter barrel length for 210 Grain to 270 Grain bullets. The Lapua gets the nod with 300 Grain bullets at the cost of longer barrel length and more powder”.

KAHLES 318i PROFESSIONAL: Kahles 3-18 Illuminated allows the end user to utilize the .338 RUM past 700 yards with no issue. Gunwerks has the BDC turret installed, certificated, and zeroed. Using the included ammunition the turret dials to range on the first revolution. Target at 550 yards? Turn the turret to 5.5 and hold dead on. 250 yards? “2.5”. Brown Bear Moose Elk Buffalo at 680 yards? Dial to the 6.75 hashmark and rack em.
AMMUNITION: Five boxes (100 rounds) Gunwerks hand loaded 250 Grain Barnes LRX. The Barnes Long-Range X Bullet (LRX) design increases Ballistic Coefficient values by increasing ogive and boat tail lengths to improve the bullets’ long-range ballistic performance. For the hunter who is confident in long-range hunting, the LRX will fill the niche of this new hunting craze. LRX bullets are manufactured with the proven 100-percent copper, lead-free bodies. The bullet’s polymer tip initiates expansion, causing the nose cavity to open instantly on contact doubling the bullet’s original diameter while creating four cutting petals that wreak extensive internal damage. Exceptional performance means a clean quick kill.
DUOFOLD BIPOD: BT10-LW17 V8 Atlas Bipod with quick release ADM-170-S lever. This is a perfect match to this rifle; folds forward or back, full extension with cant/swivel, lockable.
ULFHEDNAR: Ulfhednar premier ammunition carrier and utility pouch for your rangefinder (not included). You should get one of the new model Gunwerks BR-4 units though. Amazing. Gives a shoot to range as it takes into account altitude, temperature, inclination and more. Yes we have them in stock.
COST/BUILD: The “lead time” for this rifle on the Gunwerks website is 180 days, six months plus. Too intricate and too time consuming to grab parts, stick together, and throw out the door. If you can get the Gunwerks rifle builder on their website to allow you to build a .338 RUM as described it is $16,359 no hard case, no ammo, no Ulfhednar. Rifle and scope only. See the itemization in the pictures. Once you get to check out you can add the hard case for $350, Atlas duofold BT Bipod with quick release $290 (upgrade from Gunwerks smaller version). Ammunition 5 boxes premier Gunwerks $235 per box = $1170. Ulfhednar ammo carrier w/ rangefinder/accessory case $162. Total if you can order one and get in mebbee 8 months is $18,331.
