Description

HILL COUNTRY RIFLES CUSTOM CARBON FIBER PROOF SUPERMATCH BUILD .338 WINCHESTER MAGNUM SHOOTS 1/3″ @ 100 YARDS = 2″ @ 600 YARDS WITH FACTORY AMMUNITION! 1/3″ at 100 yards. With factory ammo. Test target from Matt Bettersworth (Director Operations/Sales Co-owner) included. Ok the RIFLE can shoot that but neither you nor moi can.. but it sure helps! Rifle is a 100% custom hand built as a short 22″ barreled lightweight .338 custom for use on all North American game out to 900 yards. Premier Swarovski scope with a Ballistic Turret from Swarovski tuned to this rifle, these bullets. Rifle is zeroed for this scope with the included ammunition. Numbered from 200 yards (zero) to 1000 yards. Ships with rifle zeroed at 200 yards; target at 650 yards? Put the turret on 6.5. Target at 425 yards? Turn the turret to 4.25. Completely set up and done with barrel break-in, zero and tuned to 9oo yards. Recoil non issue as brake, stock, and set up cuts felt recoil to .308 levels.

WHY .338 MAGNUM?? Got caught up in the Gunwerks 1000 yard shooter with all the new cartridges we all just gotta have; ELD and VLD bullets in the latest greatest fastest long distance 1000 yard no 1500 yard no 1800 yard barrel burners. Problem is I will not shoot at an Elk at 1000 yards. Nor 800 yards. Maybe 700 yards if conditions are perfect cause I cannot call wind well enough to insure a one shot kill. Frankly few in the world can past 1000 yards in ONE shot. Takes more than one and typically a spotter.. anyhoo, so after shooting and hunting with these VLD and ELD and .300 latest greatest PRC discovered they are simply chasing the .338 Lapua (in larger cartridges). Since we are big on Elk, Moose, Bear why not build a long range lighter weight .338 Lapua with ammo available worldwide? Build the king? Tried with Gunwerks in the Verdict. Too big to lug around. Called Matt and he has built four .338 Lapua rifles for us all under 12 lbs cocked and locked scoped and tuned. Superior Swaro optics all shoot under 1/2″. Perfect! From 50 feet to 2000 yards will kill all North American game no issues.. but, um, gee like I said I do not shoot 1500 yards. Called Matt again and told him my ideal rifle has a 20 to 22 ” barrel, is Psycho accurate, 9 lbs ish, kills Elk to 800 yards. And I want one stop shots in a 33 caliber rifle which shoots FACTORY AMMUNITION I can buy off the shelf at the gun store not custom order from Gunwerks. Yep. Factory ammunition with recoil of a .308. Told him to build me some .338 Lapuas with 22 inch barrels. He refused. Said no no no. Gotta have 26 inch barrels for the powder burn, accuracy, etc. Argued with him ( a little) as did not care if all the powder was burned it was a dedicated platform for 800 yards or under NOT 1500 yards. He told me the .338 Win Mag in a 22 inch barrel will burn all the powder and the lethality to 900 yards would be stunning on large game. Told him I did not want a cartridge older than me. He said she said new powders, new bullets = new ballistics, energy, distance, lethality. Said ok.. build me a few. Well. Gosh. Psycho success. Portable rifles with 22 inch barrels that have the ability to shoot one inch groups at 500 yards, weigh 9lbs ish, shoot FACTORY hunting ammunition, recoil on par with .308. And smackdown to 1000 yards all day.

Rifles are brand new hand built units from Hill Country Rifles and will take all North American game to include Brown Bear. Purpose built for Elk and Moose these rifles have readily available ammunition for the largest sheep, goats, and deer to boot. Invoice for the RIFLE ONLY with itemization is in the pictures. Every upgrade, every option with the preferred hinged hunting floorplate. The HCR Custom Long Range Carbon Hunter has a premier Hill Country Rifles muzzle brake. Topped with Mark Bettersworth’s recommendation; Swarovski lightweight hunting scope in the premier Z8i line. 2-16 x 50 Illuminated insures at 2x power you can take game at 25 yards yet move to 16X for your 900 yard shots! This was ordered with a picatinny rail for a bipod on the forward underbelly.

SWAROVSKI Z8i 2-16X50: If’n you think you need a 5-25x scope to shoot 600 yards you are, frankly, “all wet”. Wrong. Hathcock shot a PAVN General through the heart with a straight 10x at 700 yards. Back on track this is lightweight illuminated Swaro which at 2x can be used from 10 feet out.. cranking to 16x is more than adequate for the 700 yard Moose shot. Erstwhile Alex has his 5-25x scope which cannot be used on game under 40 yards as the 5x magnification is too strong. Then he cranks to 25x for his 350 yard Elk shot and wonders where’s da Elk? At 25x your FOV is too narrow to discern your targets vitals (at 350 yards). Then let’s start chatting about parallax at 25x, then sight picture (wobbly and wandering reticle) at 25x. Yes I would absolutely put a 5-25 on the .338 Lapua if you are going to shoot over 1000 yards.

RIFLE WEIGHT: Scoped with a bipod ready to go at 9.2lbs. If you think that is too heavy for a .338 racking and stacking at over 700 yards you know not of what you speak. Wanna 7lb rifle? Lose a couple pounds.

EBERLESTOCK RIFLE PACK: You do not really hunt with a sling.. do you? Never. Rifle is in your custom Eberlestock pack which cuts perceived weigh to squat. If in a high opportunity environment, sure, walk with the rifle in your hands.. never slung. Waste of time. Rifle slips from the pack in seconds and the pack is utilized to shoot off of. If I am only going out for a couple hours I still ALWAYS take my pack. Stuffed with a pillow. To shoot off of! This is the latest version of the pack that started a gear revolution, the legendary J34 Just One Pack™. As in, “if you’re going to own just one hunting pack, own a Just One.” The J34 is extremely versatile and it comes with the patented features that make Eberlestock packs unique. Starting at an ultra-compact 2300 cubic inches, the built-in Cam Expansion System™ expands it to 4600 cubic inches. Add in a Super Spike Duffel™, and you get a 7500 cubic inch load hauler.

KUIU RIFLE COVER: “Keeps your firearm protected from the elements. Expanded body and hook-and-loop closure tabs fit the rifle securely, while the end webbing loops offer easy removal for quick shot opportunities. The padded and reinforced ends keep your gun protected from bumps and abrasion, while the water-resistant fabric repels rain and snow, yet remains breathable to not trap moisture”.

AMMUNITION: Ammunition is FACTORY ammo readily available in .338 Win Mag. Ships with 5 boxes of Barnes VOR-TX 225 grain ammunition. “VOR-TX® is precision ammunition loaded with the deadliest bullets on the planet. Barnes, the leader in bullet innovation offers hunters the ultimate in accuracy, terminal performance and handloaded precision in a factory loaded round. Offering double-diameter expansion, maximum weight retention and excellent accuracy, the TSX provides maximum tissue and bone destruction, pass-through penetration and devastating energy transfer.”

BUILD COST: Rifle only cost is in the invoice/itemization. Rifle only is $8117 no scope no ammo no validation no barrel break in. Then find a premier Z8i 2-16 x 50 illuminated Swarovski $3200 Optics Planet and everywhere else. Ship to Matt at HCR for professional mount. Swarovski custom turret cap is on the invoice but the actual Ballistic Turret we order separate form Swarovski (in the Z8i line) another $200. Then ship that to Matt to install and tune. One box of Barnes VOR-TX 225 grain TSX is $80 @ Midway x 5 boxes  = $400.  Eberlestock rifle pack “Just One” $382. Total to build $12,299 and about 10 months.
