NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM CLASSIC COLT SERIES 70: Nighthawk Custom had their own Bob Reeves build a limited run of Custom Shop pistols in various configurations off stripped Colt Series 70 pistols supplied by Colt manufacturing. The pistols supplied by Colt were “in the white” and were naked without Colt stamps or markings. Bob Reeves of the custom shop at Nighthawk Custom built out these few pistols again in varying configurations.
- Complete Reliability Package: Polish, radius, and tune extractor. Adjust ejector for positive ejection. Polish the breech face. Hand fit slide stop. Throat the barrel/polish chamber and throat. Adjust feed ramp angle and polish feed ramp. Change recoil spring to Nighthawk. Hand fit and set magazine release for “drop free” magazine operation.
- Action Tune Package: This work includes polishing, tuning and adjusting the internal components to ensure that the gun will run reliably under a variety of conditions using a wide spectrum of ammunition.
- Prep, Dehorn for EDC carry: Grade 2. Bevel edges of slide and frame; dehorn all controls and small parts. Blend rear of slide to frame. Blend grip safety to frame.

SIGHT PACKAGE: Fit and install Novak Lo-Mount Carry 1911 Tritium Dot Ghost Rear Sight. Fit and install Tritium Mega Dot .180″ Glow Dome Orange Front Sight. These are the fastest acquiring sights available. Massive U notch rear sight with a single tritium dot, high vis front sight. Utilizes the “8” ball system. Simply put the front sight circle above the rear sight tritium “dot” and rock. These sights are faster than any red dot and any iron sights currently on the market to include the XS system. Over 90% of civilian and LE gunfights occur in the 5′ range (CQB close quarter battle).

NIGHTHAWK SOUTHERN TRAPPER PACKAGE: Southern Trapper is the premier leather holster manufacturer in the United States today. They supply Nighthawk Custom with all of their high end holster line up. Black leather alligator grips hand manufactured for this pistol along with the Sea Witch holster and matching magazine holder. The best is not cheap; the grips are $198, Sea Witch holster $333, suede lined $50, matching magazine holder (double) $131 total $712.
CUSTOM NITRIDE FINISH: At 64 HRC, nitride is just six units below a diamond finish at 70 HRC. This means that the metal is solid and durable. This increase in the metal’s strength insures the firearm is better protected and results in a high resistance to erosion. Performs exceptionally well in areas with extreme temperatures, including cold, and places where the gun parts will be exposed to abrasives such as sand in the desert. A nitride finish’s smooth surface also means that the gun will be easier to clean and will need much less lubrication to keep it in good working order.
TEST TARGET: Certificated target from Nighthawk Custom. All rounds shoot through the same hole.. at 36 feet. Thirty six feet with the Novak sight system installed and all rounds touch or go through the same hole. Thirty six (36) feet. Over 90% of gunfights occur within 5 feet. Standard response is a non issue. Precision shots non issue.

COST/BUILD: You cannot build these pistols simply because you cannot get Colt to make a run of them for you. You can acquire a new Series 70 for around $1190 and ship to Nighthawk for their Colt’s package.. $2900 with shipping. Custom sights as described with machine cuts another $379 installed.
