NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM SASS 1911 .45 ACP: Nighthawk Custom utilized their “One Gun One Gunsmith” formula upon receiving brand new 21st Century Colt Series 70 1911 pistols “in the white”. The Colt pistols were forwarded to Nighthawk Custom’s Bob Reeves for complete retro builds while upgrading and insuring the pistols were premier 21st Century Warfighters while maintaining the aesthetics of a period correct post WWI Colt Government 1911 pistol. SASS certificated, SASS legal.
COLT 1911 GOVERNMENT SERIES 70 “IN THE WHITE”: Rockegroup, LLC acquired brand new Colt Series 70 1911 Government pistols “in the white” sans Colt engravings and forwarded to Nighthawk Custom for complete builds.
NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM LIMITED SASS EDITION:
- Complete Reliability Package: Polish, radius, and tune extractor. Adjust ejector for positive ejection. Polish the breech face. Hand fit slide stop. Throat the barrel/polish chamber and throat. Adjust feed ramp angle and polish feed ramp. Change recoil spring (Nighthawk). Hand fit and set magazine release for “drop free” magazine operation. Hand fit six Nighthawk magazines.
- Action Tune Package: This work includes polishing, tuning and adjusting the internal components to ensure that the gun will run reliably under a variety of conditions using a wide spectrum of ammunition.
- Prep, Dehorn for EDC carry: Grade 2. Bevel edges of slide and frame; dehorn all controls and small parts. Blend rear of slide to frame. Blend grip safety to frame.

SIGHT PACKAGE: Fit and install Gold Bead front sight. Fit and install retro rear sight. Note the “retro” rear sight is not a retro sight; it is a 21st Century Warfighter sight with a “retro” outline. The Notch is the wide CQB notch with a thick large frame window.
STARBOARD ENGRAVED: “COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 45” with Nighthawk Custom Moon Logo behind the rear press check serrations. “Government Model” subdued.
PORT ENGRAVED: “NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM BERRYVILLE, AR, U.S.A.” and “PATENTED APRIL 20,1897 SEPT 2, 1902 DEC 19, 1905 FEB 14, 1911 and Nighthawk Custom “Moon” logo behind rear press check serrations.
CUSTOM NITRIDE FINISH: At 64 HRC, nitride is just six units below a diamond finish at 70 HRC. This means that the metal is solid and durable. This increase in the metal’s strength insures the firearm is better protected and results in a high resistance to erosion. Performs exceptionally well in areas with extreme temperatures, including cold, and places where the gun parts will be exposed to abrasives such as sand in the desert. A nitride finish’s smooth surface also means that the gun will be easier to clean and will need much less lubrication to keep it in good working order.
SMOKED NITRIDE FINISH: The custom “smoked” version from Nighthawk Custom gives the 1911 an old school “aged” look while enhancing the overall beauty of the pristine finish.
TEST TARGET: Certificated target from Nighthawk Custom. All rounds shoot through the same hole.. at 36 feet. Sights were zeroed by Nighthawk and are “dead on” as shown in the pictures.
THREE SETS GRIPS/AUTHENTIC BAKELITE: Pistol ships with Nighthawk Custom Presentation Medallion grips, Cocobolo Double Diamond wood grips, and authentic Bakelite 1911 grips.
BAKELITE 1911 GRIPS, AUTHENTIC: In the 20’s soon after 1911 pistols were initially issued they were reconditioned as needed.. and were given Bakelite grips. Rockegroup, LLC was able to acquire new never issued Bakelite grips circa 1940. We received the last three authenticated sets of new never issued USGI real Bakelite grips for the sum of $232 for each set shipped.
CHALLIS GRIP BUSHINGS, O RINGS, CHALLIS GRIP SCREW O RINGS: You will never get another set of real USGI Bakelite issue grips in “new” condition.. so we went out of our way to protect the investment. Challis supplied rubber “O” rings that go over the grip hubs on the frame and a smaller set of rubber O rings that go over the grip screws. These pad and protect your Bakelite grips and act as shock absorbers as the rubber compresses and expands as pressure is supplied/released. Talk about the nth detail.
KIRKPATRICK LEATHER/WILD BUNCH HOLSTER RIG: Representative of the civilian leather 1911 rig as manufactured during and after WWI. Since the “Wild Bunch” movie is a classic of those times we contacted Kirkpatrick Leather for hand built custom “Wild Bunch” rigs. Slide the 1911 in this rig and you are speechless.. ordered with four double magazine holders meaning the rig holds eight magazines. Check the pictures. Many months later Kirkpatrick delivered our first rig.. for $650 United States Dollars, shipped. The Wild Bunch rig is now a custom order on their site; you can order one for the same price (we do not get a discount). Border Stamp with two extra double magazine holders = $600 shipped, then upgrade the buckle for another $50. The leather belt with this rig can be replaced with one “your size” after purchase. You will use this belt to check fit and add or subtract inches from there. New belt will take approximately three months to custom manufacture for you.
BRAND NEW TWO TONE MAGAZINES: These are the type that were made up until just before WWII. They are called “two tone” because only the bottom half of the magazine was blued, while the upper half was left “in the white.” These are brand new manufacture from a premier magazine manufacturer and shipped to Turnbull Restoration where they were 1/2 “blued” to be historically accurate. You get four brand new two tone magazines. Note these new magazines are no longer available from Turnbull Restoration and are running over $120 each on the secondary market ie ebay and Gunbroker.
NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM/COLT MAGAZINES: In addition to the four historically accurate two tone magazines there are eight period correct 1940 Colt magazines (blued) which are current manufacture. These will fill your Wild Bunch rig up and appear historically correct although they are 21st Century Warfighter magazines. Additionally as this weapon may be used in all 1911 arenas to include LE use, home defense, tactical offense, and EDC two Nighthawk Custom magazines are included. Total magazine count is 14 (fourteen).
CHOICE “WILD BUNCH” AMMUNITION: Choice Ammunition SASS approved “Wild Bunch” ammunition. Loaded in a Wells Fargo bag these are 230 grain Choice handloads, 250 rounds. We do not get any “dealer” discounts from Choice; these are $250 shipped for one bag.. and you get one bag. One bag of 250 rounds. Note this weapon is enhanced for use with all current tactical and/or +P .45 ACP ammunition.
COMPLETION: Unfreakingbelievable. I went to the Louvre years ago and stared at the Mona Lisa. To be frank I just did not get it. If it was in my office or home or shop I would take it down and give it to Kiwanis. Just does not ring my bell. After an exhaustive day I actually sit down and will grab a brew of whatever my choice that week is and stare at my personal ensemble (one of the three). This is art. It is like taking a valium.. calming. Beautiful. The completed “Wild Bunch” ensemble is beyond words in beauty to me. Yep. Beats the Mona Lisa.
