NIGHTHAWK CUSTOM/ROCKEGROUP, LLC: Nighthawk is pigeonholed on custom product and has been for years now. They have some awesome builds but they are all “catalog” guns and specific run builds.. in other words you cannot custom order one of their pistols with specific sights, barrels, triggers, etc. The Custom Shop at Nighthawk Custom will do specific builds within reason within realistic boundaries. These pistols were built 100% by Nighthawk Custom to both Nighthawk Custom and Rockegroup specific specs. Bob Reeves is the head of the Nighthawk Custom shop and ran these builds start to finish.
COLT SERIES 70: The base platform for these stunning pistols is from a limited run of Colt’s Series 70 1911 pistols. They were custom built by Colt as “Naked Slide” pistols in the “white” and delivered to Rockegroup, LLC without sights. Units were subsequently shipped to Nighthawk for the final “build”.
- Complete Reliability Package: Polish, radius, and tune extractor. Adjust ejector for positive ejection. Polish the breech face. Hand fit slide stop. Throat the barrel/polish chamber and throat. Adjust feed ramp angle and polish feed ramp. Change recoil spring (Nighthawk). Hand fit and set magazine release for “drop free” magazine operation.
- Action Tune Package: This work includes polishing, tuning and adjusting the internal components to ensure that the gun will run reliably under a variety of conditions using a wide spectrum of ammunition.
- Prep, Dehorn for EDC carry: Grade 2. Bevel edges of slide and frame; dehorn all controls and small parts. Blend rear of slide to frame. Blend grip safety to frame.

SIGHT PACKAGE: Fit and install Novak Lo-Mount Carry 1911 Tritium Dot Ghost Rear Sight. Fit and install Tritium Mega Dot .180″ Glow Dome Orange Front Sight. These are the fastest acquiring sights available. Massive U notch rear sight with a single tritium dot, high vis front sight. Utilizes the “8” ball system. Simply put the front sight circle above the rear sight tritium “dot” and rock. These sights are faster than any red dot and any iron sights currently on the market to include the XS system. Over 90% of civilian and LE gunfights occur in the 5′ range (CQB close quarter battle). Red dots are great on a handgun for 25 yard silhouettes but are horrific for CQB, mainly due to acquisition time.

CUSTOM NITRIDE FINISH: At 64 HRC, nitride is just six units below a diamond finish at 70 HRC. This means that the metal is solid and durable. This increase in the metal’s strength insures the firearm is better protected and results in a high resistance to erosion. Performs exceptionally well in areas with extreme temperatures, including cold, and places where the gun parts will be exposed to abrasives such as sand in the desert. A nitride finish’s smooth surface also means that the gun will be easier to clean and will need much less lubrication to keep it in good working order.
TEST TARGET: Moneyball. Certificated target from Nighthawk Custom. All rounds shoot through the same hole.. at 36 feet. Thirty six feet with the Novak sight system installed and all rounds touch or go through the same hole. Thirty six (36) feet. Over 90% of gunfights occur within 5 feet. Standard response is a non issue. Precision shots non issue.
NIGHTHAWK MAGAZINES: Each pistol ships with six (6) Nighthawk Custom eight (8) round magazines. Using the 8+1 format your pistol holds nine rounds of .45 ACP.
MURRAY CUSTOM LEATHER: A-4 Murray Handgun Rug; heavy saddle leather and lined with fleece. Double stitched with a full length wrap. YKK brass zipper.
AMMUNITION #1: Federal P45SHC1 Premium Personal Defense Punch 45 ACP +P 240 gr Solid Core Synthetic Flat Nose. Full 200 round case, 10 boxes of 20 rounds. New technology, powders, and bullets have stretched the .45 ACP into the 10mm arena. These are solid core monster slaying bullets; will knock down a Grizzly, smoke a Cape Buffalo. These are your bear back up monster slaying cartridges. Do not use in a city environment as the penetration depths are extreme.
TRACER AMMUNITION: AMMO INC. STREAK 45 ACP 230 GRAIN NON-INCENDIARY RED TRACER: Full case of 200 rounds. These 45 ACP rounds are perfect for target practice and night shooting. The non-incendiary tracer projectile allows you to see its path leading all the way up to the target and is even visible in the dark, making it the perfect round for shooting at night. High-quality visual ammunition is the perfect way to optimize your training and greatly improve your performance.
AMMUNITION #3: Remington 250 round brick of FMJ Full Metal Jacket practice and outdoor and punch through truck ammunition.
SYNOPSIS: The ubiquitous influence of the Series 70 is felt and seen in every premier 1911 build today. These stunning customs not only pay homage to the original Series 70 but elevate the platform to the “top”. Stunning to look at and admire. COST/BUILD: You cannot build these pistols simply because you cannot get Colt to make a run of them for you. You can acquire a new Series 70 for around $1190 and ship to Nighthawk for their Colt’s package.. $2800 with shipping. Custom sights as described with machine cuts another $379 installed. Additional custom engraving $303. Nighthawk Custom fitted magazines, six, $274. Murray rug $188. Premium Federal Monster Slayer ammunition is $37 per box you get 10 boxes = $370.
