CIVILIAN LEGAL M16: FN manufactures the M16, M4, M240, M249 and tons of other weapons contracted by the U.S. Military. Colt as of today has been brought back into the fold (thanks to politicians) after being given the boot for supplying sub spec equipment (fascinating back story). FN took over production of the M16 and M4 from Colt and fields a noticeably superior weapon.
FN manufactured these M16 CIVILIAN LEGAL rifles with modified lowers so they cannot shoot fully automatic or “select-fire”. They are semi-automatic rifles = civilian legal. These are 100% military specification rifles and have parts interchangeability with the issue M16 rifle and will pass any/all milspec inspection EXCEPT the lower has been manufactured so it will not not not shoot fully automatic. The select switch does have “SAFE”, “SEMI”, AND “AUTO” but will not move into the “AUTO” position.
These military issue rifles have the period correct KAC Knight’s Armament Company M5 RAS Adapter rail with rail adapter covers and the KAC adjustable rear iron sight and the Knight’s forward grip along with the proper UID label.
MILITARY ISSUE OPTICS: TA31RCO is an Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) designed for the 16A4 weapon system (20” barrel). Dual illumination technology using a combination of fiber optics and self-luminous tritium. The tritium illuminates the aiming point in total darkness, and the fiber optic self-adjusts reticle brightness during daylight according to ambient light conditions. This allows the operator to keep both eyes open while engaging targets and maintaining maximum situational awareness. Designed to the exact specifications of the United States military, the unique reticle pattern provides quick target acquisition at close combat ranges while providing enhanced target identification and hit probability out to 800 meters utilizing the Bullet Drop Compensator. Military issue version includes steel braided retention devices for the windage and elevation caps and includes an ARD anti-reflection device (Tenebraex).
OPTICS AND AMMUNITION NOTE: The ACOG has a BDC ballistic drop compensator for the 20 inch M16A4. Target at 600 meters put the “6” on it. 400 meters put the “4” on it. The BDC in the ACOG is calibrated for the 62 Grain 5.56 NATO Green Tip Steel Core Penetrator ammunition, which is included.
MILITARY ISSUE AMMUNITION: Green Tip Steel Core Penetrator 5.56 NATO 62 Grain M855, unopened 1000 round case. Designed for use in the M16 to penetrate a steel helmet at 700 meters. Reloadable brass casings with the SS109 steel core projectile. This projectile is an effective blend of lead core and hardened steel penetrator at the tip. Used by NATO and military forces around the world. An appropriate choice to leave loaded in magazines reserved for emergency use as these are not typical FMJ cartridges and boast increased ballistic capabilities along with the ability to store for decades.
MILITARY ISSUE MAGAZINES, EIGHT: These are OKAY Mil-Spec issue magazines or Duramag. “Plastic works fine for toys and casual use, but has proven molecularly unstable in extreme environments, vulnerable to changes in humidity, and unable to retain shape during extended use. These mil-spec magazines are proven reliable on the frozen tundra, in the sands of the desert, and/or pulling from long-term storage”.
MILITARY ISSUE BAYONET: Issue U.S. Army OD Green bayonets or the U.S.M.C. issue FDE bayonets.. your choice. Both are manufactured for this M16A4 rifle, both are a stainless blade, non-reflective gray phosphate finish and milled sawteeth. The Army version has a wire cutter integral to the sheath and may, or may not, be stamped “U.S. Army”. The U.S.M.C. version has a sharpener on the sheath and is stamped “USMC”.
PX/BX 11B GERBER KNIFE: LMF II Infantry, Coyote Brown. MOLLE compatible knife is rugged and versatile, with a partially serrated blade that can also serve as pommel. The sheath includes a built-in blade sharpener. Originally designed to free an aircrew from a downed aircraft, the LMF II is tough enough to cut through the fuselage of an aircraft and smart enough to ensure you are safe while doing so. The knife has a purposeful break between the tang and the butt cap, providing insulated protection against stray wires and absorbing any shock from hammering. This “Infantry” version has been widely utilized by the individual members of the United States military. It is an item each soldier is expected to purchase on their own and is their EDC or every day carry knife in the field, in full kit. Note individual soldiers have a wide leeway to carry whatever knife they see fit in the field.. and it is not a bayonet.
U.S.M.C. PACKAGE VS U.S. ARMY PACKAGE: Purchaser has the option of the “Army” version with the U.S. Army flag and bayonet or the USMC version with the USMC flag and USMC bayonet. Flags are exceptional quality. Not great, exceptional. These are indoor display flags not outdoor on your front porch flags. Too nice.
OTIS M16 + MAGPUL: The issue Otis cleaning kit fits in the buttstock cleaning kit compartment. The Magpul sling is an adapted adjustable sling and is an upgrade over the original issue sling.
COST/BUILD: You can buy a civilian legal FN M16 in a carboard box no optics no bayonet no nada for $1800 shipped off of Gunbroker today. Call Trijicon for a brand new military issue ACOG with a BDC for the M16 and Green Tip ammunition $1776 w/ ARD anti reflective device. Unopened 1000 round case of Green Tip ammunition $691 (cases, cardboard box). M9 Combat Knife (bayonet) $223. Gerber Infantry knife $144. Army or USMC flag another $111.
